Concert #034 Saturday, November 17, 1990 - Reunion Arena Dallas, Texas (1)
First Concert in Dallas, Texas! 1st at Reunion Arena
Judas Priest (3) [Painkiller]
Missed all but last few notes of Testament
went w/Aimee M. RIP, Rick D., Jim L?, Lee F.? met up w/ Efriam G., Dirk G. , Pat RIP, Dale E., Felix G., and others.
Testament (2) They were on the Souls of Black tour. We were late....due to a friend. Caught the last half of last song or so, of Testament. I loved Practice what you Preach, however Souls of Black not as much. It seemed rushed and a weaker carbon copy of Practice. Be that as it may, I was really disappointed that we missed them. The last song or so sounded great, what I heard of it.
This was my first, and one of my favorite times to see Megadeth, who was on tour for Rust in Peace. New drummer, new guitarist, I was excited. I had remembered Marty Friedman from his old band Hawaii, and all I knew about the new drummer was that he was phenomenal on the new album.
Good set list, including to me the highlight for me, Hook In Mouth and In My Darkest Hour. .
It was grand.
This was my favorite time that I have ever seen Judas Priest, who were on tour for Painkiller. They were kicking ass on all phases again. Much better album than the last two clunking turds in the toilet they had.
The highlight, for me, was the addition of a great drummer back into the band finally, for the first time since 1978, when Les Banks left. Scott Travis is a monster drummer breathing new life into these same old songs. Those old tired tunes, just fucking ERUPTED, like they were intended to do, but couldn't, because they had Dave Holland on there. That guy has to be the second worst drummer ever in metal, maybe next to Vinnie Appicie, or his brother Carmine.
Great performance, and my girlfriend really enjoyed it, and suddenly quit being a bitch that night.
On way home, five of us crammed in my 1990 Ford Escort, got about 2 miles from the venue, when we had flat on highway spur. We had to walk about a mile or so, in freezing cold weather, with cars speeding past us, Aimee in heels and a little dress, in the days before cell phones. At least two Cops passed us, never asked us if we needed help, or flares, or anything. Fuckers. Finally found a pay phone, at a closed gas station in a very dicey part of town. Every house around us boarded up, and pretty creepy. Dale came with a tire and rescued us. Didn't seem to ruin anyone's mood. It was a grand night of music and friendship. Went to a party and rocked the fuck out 'till the wee hours.
P.S. It was really fucking cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP Nick Menza – drums, backing vocals - Menza died on May 21, 2016 after succumbing to heart failure while performing with his band, OHM, in Los Angeles.
