Concert #028
Wednesday, November 25, 1987 - Ector County Coliseum - Odessa, Texas (26)

Whitesnake [Whitesnake]
Great White [Once Bitten...]

My old concert buddy, Rick, came down from Lubbock.  We got fucking HAMMERED.
Shortly after walking in, we saw a guy we will call Jeff, and his girlfriend.  We exchange pleasantries, hand shakes and hugs, when Rick looks her over and says "Wow, you're ass got fucking FAT!!"
I couldn't believe it, and she got so pissed off, she leaned back and just slapped the holy fuck out of him, knocked his glasses half off.  He just let out a roaring laugh, as they stormed off into the crowd. It was fucking AWESOME.
Great White was on tour to support their Once Bitten... LP. I really tried to like this band, I had their self titled album, but they just did nothing for me. I do like a couple of songs later in their career, but...eh. All I remember is how underwhelming they were, and Audi Desbrow's white cymbals.
Whitesnake hadn't been seen or hear from for FOUR years! Four years was an eternity in the 80s. This was a new, all-star version of Whitesnake, a really expensive cover band, as none of them played on the album. I think they slipped in a solo overdubbed by Vandenberg on the video, but he is no Sykes. By the way, they all had giant big hair. I was not pleased with that, or that they had fired John Sykes, but I was interested in seeing Vivian Campbell again, as well as my first oppurtunity to finally see the legendary Tommy Aldridge. Vivian Campbell may have acted like a dick when I saw him with DIO, but he was a magnificent bastard on guitar. Overall, it was deeply disappointing. It didn't hold a candle to the version I saw with the great John Sykes, Cozy Powell, and Neil Murray, in 1983, when they opened for Quiet Riot.
I don't remember a lot of the mostly forgettable concert, but I do remember how Adrian Vandenberg just absolutely butchered Crying in the Rain. Gross. It made me sick. It was really awful. Proof is below in a live video from that era.
