Concert #024
Friday, February 14, 1986 - Ector County Coliseum - Odessa, Texas (22)

Aerosmith (1) [Done With Mirrors]
Y & T (2) [Down for the Count]
Autograph  [That's the Stuff]

Went with Ricky Daniel,  Dan Beech and Cissy.
Autograph kicked off the show in support of their 1985 LP That's the Stuff. They were painful to watch. They sucked so bad that I had erased them completely from my memory, and it took a LOT of research to find them on this tour.
Y & T   was second slot, on the Down for the Count tour. This was my second time to see them, and I actually completly forgot they were there. This also took some major digging to find some record of who opened on this tour.
They were going in a new slick and pop driven direction and I didn't like it. Summertime Girls was their single, and overall the album just really sucked compared to Black Tiger, Mean Streak, and even the disappointing In Rock We Trust was better than this new turd. With that said, I barely remember them even being there. I think it was a really short set as well, but in all fairness, I really don't remember shit about this.
Aerosmith was back together, FINALLY! I had liked them as a little kid, and as a teen I had several of their LPs, Bootleg, Greatest Hits, Get Your Wings, Draw the Line, Rocks. One of my first cassette tapes I ever bought was the (at the time) brand new Rock and a Hard Place, which I loved.
I played Aerosmith a lot on the radio, especially Seasons of Wither, and the opening track off of the new album, My Fist Your Face, and the remake of Joe Perry Project's Let the Music Do the Talking, were in heavy rotation on my regular shift (not the Underground Metal Show).
They opened with Back in the Saddle, which I believe they should ALWAYS open with, but they like to open with Big Ten Inch Record a lot in the 90s, which is a really cool song, but it doesn't get the crowd pumped like Back in the Saddle.
I couldn't believe how bad ass Steven Tyler was. He was a mad man, dancing all around the stage and even whipping out forward hand springs. Not bad for an almost 40 year old cocaine addict with half a foot missing from a motorcycle accident.
Great set list, and great energy, even if they were drugged up, which they were.
I bought jerseys, but alas, they are long gone.

RIP  January 7, 2011, bassist Phil Kennemore - Y&T - Lung cancer
RIP 2016 drummer Leonard Haze Y&T
RIP Joey Alves - Rhythm Guitar - [Y&T 1984 - 1985] March 12, 2017
"It's with great sadness that I write this today. Y&T's original rhythm guitarist, Joey Alves, passed away at 7:10 this morning. He suffered from ulcerative colitis and other complications that led to his passing.
"Joey was one of the finest rock rhythm guitarists, and I'll always remember playing next to him chunking out those monster chords with his classic red double cutaway '59 Les Paul Jr.
"As Ronnie Montrose once said about Joey, 'There are rhythm players, then there's Joey. A class of his own.....'
"He was a fun guy who always played with attitude and conviction, and was responsible for writing some memorable riffs for Y&T over the years. His friendship and presence will be missed.
"This is a great loss for all the Y&T family and faithful. He now joins Phil and Leonard in rock and roll heaven."
